Planning reform proposals
ESA welcomes the Government’s proposals to speed up the decision making process for major infrastructure projects and to ensure that planning plays a bigger role in tackling climate change.
The UK is transforming the way it deals with waste: recycling has quadrupled in the last ten years and our industry provides one thirds of the UK’s renewable energy.
Extracting more value from waste requires new infrastructure, and a more effective planning process will help ensure our industry can help the UK meets its targets to reduce reliance on landfill and increase recycling.
Notes 1. ESA is the UK’s sectoral trade association for waste and secondary resource management, an industry accounting for 0.5% GDP.
