The Environment Agency has written to operators regarding requirements for 2009 Pollution Industry Reporting - A copy of the letter is provided below:
January 2010
Dear Sir / Madam
Pollution Inventory Reporting
We wrote to you in October this year with a notice requiring you to make an annual report to the Pollution Inventory. This letter is to advise you that we are relaxing the deadlines in that notice for reporting of the 2009 data on resource efficiency measures, because the software we are developing to enable you to send us electronic data on resource efficiency has been delayed.
As specified in the October notice, you are still required to submit emissions and waste transfers data for 2009 between 4 January and 28 February 2010. This should be done online using the existing pollution inventory electronic data capture tool wherever possible.
However, we are relaxing the deadlines for submission of the resource efficiency measures data to the period 2 March and 30 April 2010. This is to enable development of new data capture software for these metrics to be completed.
Where you are submitting methane emission data for a landfill, you must use the GasSim II model to develop your predicted emissions not GasSImLite as you may have done in the past. This is to ensure we have a better estimate of methane production for climate change mitigation purposes.
If you prefer to submit a paper form containing data on the resource efficiency measures to your local Environment Agency office, you may do so at any time before the 30th April. You can get hold of a form for this purpose at the following web address from the 4th January: (http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/business/topics/pollution/32272.aspx).
This arrangement only applies to the reporting of the 2009 data. All reporting for 2010 and 2011 will remain as specified in the original notice.
If you have any queries on the above, please contact us on 08708 506 506.
Finally, I’d like to apologise for any inconvenience that this change may have caused.
Yours faithfully
Peter Elliott Policy Advisor - Landfill Environment Agency
