The Agency has issued a statement regarding landfill monitoring during the current severe weather conditions. The Agency has advised monitoring disrupted due to adverse weather should not attract a compliance classification score.

SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS – ENVIRONMENTAL POLICIES

Operator Monitoring of Landfill Sites

1 The severe weather may have disrupted an operator's monitoring of landfill sites.  This could be because of difficulty accessing some monitoring points or personnel not being able to get to the site.

2 Where this has occurred the operator should make a record of this within their site records (such as a site diary), and on their monitoring submission to the Environment Agency, giving reasons for nil returns.  The operator should try to undertake the monitoring as soon as possible, and provide the late return.

3 Where this has been justified because of the recent weather (snow/thaw), it shouldn't attract a Compliance Classification (CCS) score and Areas should not penalise the operator.
