Northern Ireland

NIESA was launched in the Parliamentary Buildings at Stormont, Belfast in June 2001, providing technical direction and support to the waste management industry and authorities in Northern Ireland as they strive to fulfil the Northern Ireland Waste Management Strategy.

NIESA provides a link to information on many the issues affecting sustainable waste management.

Waste Management Strategy for Northern Ireland

In March 2006, a waste management strategy document entitled Towards Resource Management: The Northern Ireland Waste Management Strategy 2006 -2020 was launched which is the overarching strategy for Northern Ireland waste management. This is currently being reviewed in order to incorporate the requirements of the revised Waste Framework Directive (Directive 200/98/EC)

Further information regarding Northern Ireland's waste strategy can be found at :

The House of Commons Public Accounts Committee published its report on Northern Ireland's Waste Management Strategy, in February 2006, which also might be of interest.
