Wales

WESA was launched at the National Assembly for Wales in Cardiff in October 2001.

Devolution brings Wales many rights and responsibilities and WESA is the vehicle for the waste management industry in Wales to work in partnership with the Executive - and others - to implement the requirements of European Directives, work on the development of the Welsh National Waste Strategy and meet other challenges.

In June 2010 the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) launched its Waste Strategy 2009 – 2050 “Towards Zero Waste” which sets out the Welsh Assembly Government’s high level policies and targets for the management of waste in Wales.

It has subsequently published consultations on a number of ‘Sector Plans’ which set out the steps that WAG considers are necessary to meet outcomes and milestones set in Towards Zero Waste.
