British Glass
Organisation for glass manufacturers, glass supply and user companies, promoting the use and recycling of glass.

Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM)
CIWM is the professional body which represents over 4,000 waste management professionals and sets the professional standards for individuals working in the waste management industry.

Composting Association
The UK's national composting organisation, researching and promoting best practice in composting and the uses of composts.

Confederation of British Industry (CBI)
Independent business organisation which aims to ensure that the Government, the European Commission and the wider community understand both the needs of British business and the contribution it makes to UK society.

Customs & Excise
Responsible for collecting taxes and duties, including waste related taxes such as the Landfill Tax, the Climate Change Levy and the Aggregates Levy.

Department for Communities and Local Government
Responsible for regional and local government, fire, housing, planning and regeneration in England.

Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA)
The Government department with prime responsibility for waste and resource management, as well as other forms of environmental protection.

Department for Transport
The Government department responsible for transport.

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)
The Government department responsible for encouraging growth and development of trade and industry in the UK.

Environmental Trust Scheme Regulatory Body (ENTRUST)
Regulator of the Landfill Tax Credit Scheme.

Environment Agency
Environmental regulatory body in England and Wales.

Envirowise
Government-funded programme offering free, independent advice on practical ways to minimise waste and convert turnover into profit. They help companies in the UK gain competitiveness, whilst improving their environmental performance by reducing waste at source.

European Commission
The European Commission is the executive body of the European Union and is responsible for implementing and managing policy. The Commission makes proposals for new legislation, which are put to the European Council and the European Parliament. The Environment Directorate of the European Commission is the source for the majority of European waste legislation.

European Environment Agency
The European Environment Agency assists the European Community and Member States in their attempts to improve the environment and move towards sustainability by providing targeted, relevant and reliable information.

FEAD
The European Federation which represents the European waste management industry. Its members are national waste management associations, such as ESA.

HAZRED
An Environment Agency project which aims to help small businesses prevent and reduce the amount of hazardous waste produced.

Health & Safety Executive
The Health and Safety Executive provides the Health and Safety Commission (HSC) with the policy, technological and professional advice necessary to the HSC functions of administrating the Health and Safety at Work Act throughout the UK.

Local Government Association (LGA)
The Local Government Association represents all local authorities in England and Wales. The LGA also represents police authorities, fire authorities and passenger transport authorities.

Natural Environment Research Council (NERC)
Natural Environment Research Council provides independent research and training in the environmental sciences.

Associate Parliamentary Renewable and Sustainable Energy Group (PRASEG)
C ross party group for UK politicians that exists to promote sustainable energy issues in the UK Parliament.

Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA)
Environmental regulatory body in Scotland.

Scottish Executive
The Scottish Executive is the devolved government for Scotland. It is responsible for most of the issues of day-to-day concern to the people of Scotland, including the environment, local government and planning.

Scottish Parliament
The Scottish Parliament plays a similar role to the UK Parliament - makes laws, debates important topical issues, conducts inquiries and publishes reports.

Extensive collection of waste management research and information.

Waste Watch
National charity organisation, supported by members, business, local government and DEFRA, which promotes action on waste reduction, reuse and recycling.

Welsh Assembly
The National Assembly for Wales has the power and responsibility to develop and implement policy and make vital decisions in a range of areas, including matters related the environment, local government and planning.
