ESA Response: Energy Bill Second Reading

Commenting on the House of Commons Second Reading today of the Energy Bill, which will give powers to the Secretary of State to amend the way in which the Renewables Obligation operates, ESA's Chief Executive Dirk Hazell said: “The Energy Bill being debated in Parliament today will result in changes to the Renewables Obligation with significant implications for the waste and secondary resources sector.
“ESA welcomes the Government’s agreement to continue supporting existing landfill gas projects at current levels.
“We also welcome BERR's decision deem the level of the biomass content in mixed waste fuels to be 50%and are pleased our advice has been accepted regarding a qualifying index for good quality combined heat and power (CHP).”
