Scottish Waste Management Strategy
Scottish National Waste Strategy The Scottish National Waste Strategy was launched on 24 February 2003. The primary targets outlined in the plan include:
- segregated kerbside waste collections to over 90% of households by 2020;
- 25% recycling and composting of municipal waste by 2006, and 55% by 2020 - 35% recycling and 20% composting;
- recover energy from 14% of municipal waste;
- reduce landfilling of municipal waste from 91% to 31%; and
- stop growth in the amount of municipal waste produced by 2010.

Scottish Area Waste Plans The 11 Area Waste Plans were also launched on 24 February which set out how different regions will contribute to meeting the targets. Targets in these plans will be given statutory force which will place a new duty on local authorities to prepare integrated waste management plans. Area Waste Plans for Scotland
