Waste Data Strategy for the UK

21 April 2006

Defra has published a 'Waste Data Strategy for waste streams across the UK'.

Main elements:
- Routine regulatory returns from waste management facilities should replace current system of surveys as main source of data
-Quarterly data should be collected on waste arisings and management
-Annual data should be collected on infrastructure
-Information should be collected at a detailed level: waste type, facility type and location
-Data will be uploaded to a central 'Hub' which will allow users to analyse the information in different ways.

ESA’s Waste Data Task Force regularly meets Defra and the Environment Agency to discuss progress towards meeting the waste data strategy. ESA is also involved in Defra’s Waste Data Advisory Panel.
